Regarding the registration

The library ensures equal access for all citizens to its stocks and services under the only condition to register as its reader. The relations between the Library and the reader start with the act of issuing a reader’s identification card. Reader Identification cards are valid for twelve, six or one months (as from the date of registration). The library also offers single-day passes.

The registration of the readers is made after the presentation of an official identity document (for readers who are pensioners or people with disabilities, the respective certificate is required). The reader card is personal and may not be assigned; it is used only by its holder. Exceptions are made in the cases where the reader card holder is permanently disabled and is represented by an authorised person.

With the act of registration, the reader undertakes to:
– present the reader identification card on visiting the library;
– be responsible for the protection of the library items;
– abide by the established library rules of procedure.

Regarding the borrowing of items for home use

Library items are provided for home use only in the event there is more than one copy of them. Reference books, dictionaries, encyclopaedias and materials in one copy only are used only on the premises of the reading rooms of the library.
Library items for home use may not be borrowed with a Daily pass. The borrowing period is 20 days and can be extended twice after re-registration of the borrowed items on the library premises, on the telephone or via e-mail (see section Services => Library Services). In the event that less than 20 days remain until the expiry of the reader identification card, items for home use may not be borrowed.
In the event of late return for more than 6 months, the reader’s right to borrow literature for home use will be suspended for a certain period of time.
In the event of a lost library book, a fine is imposed pursuant to the Ordinance on the Conservation of Library Collections.

Every last Thursday of the month the library is closed to the readers due to monthly preventive maintenance of the library collections.

In August, the library organises a Summer Reading Hall in the central building lobby offering a selection of literature for recreation and pleasure. Current print media editions and Internet access are also available.
The Summer Reading Hall is open from 8:30 to 17:00.
