125th Anniversary of 'Pencho Slaveikov' Library was celebrated in the office of Radio Varna together with Slavic Academy. There was poetic evening with the participation of slavic poets and the pianist Natalia Petrushenko.
Initiative called 'Slavyanska Pregradka' for collecting books with autographs was started.
German Reading-room together with Oxford Center organized a seminar for teachers in English which topic was 'Interactive Grammar'. The newest Studentbooks Oxford University Press suitable for preparation for School-leaving exams and Cambridge Exams were presented. Certificate of Attendance was given to the audience.

Workshop 'Stationenarbeit in DaF-Unterricht. Niveau A1-B1' for teachers in German language was held in the German Reading-room.

An exhibition on the occasion of 120th anniversary of famous Bulgarian poet Dora Gabe was opened at the Library main foyer.

'Pencho Slaveikov' Public library celebrated 125th anniversary since its foundation.
On visit in the Library was Mr. Jose Manuel Lorenzo Jimenez, a Managing Director of the Public Library in the city of Valladolid, district of Castile and Leon in Spain.
The visit was focused on exploring the book selection process and library working system.
The librarians in the country celebrated for first time their professional day – May 11th. For this event the “Pencho Slaveikov” Public Library organized a ceremonial official meeting of the librarian community in the municipality and invited all the librarians who the library has cooperated with.
Special guest to the meeting in the Plenary hall was Eli Popova – the Head Librarian of the Official Publication Department in the St.St.Cyril and Methodius National Library and a member of the Management Board of the Union of Librarians and Information Services Officers. From around the municipality the directors of the Educational and Cultural Departments Kosta Bazitov and Penka Zhivkova were also at the meeting.
At the main foyer in the “Pencho Slaveikov” Public Library was held an exhibition named “Among Emilian Stanev’s Works”, on the occasion of the anniversary of his 100 birthday.
The Municipality of Varna, “Cultural and Intellectual Development” Department and the “Pencho Slaveikov” Public Library organized an exhibition named “Bulgarian Pages – Geo Milev” in the main foyer of the library.
The Library was nominated for the National Prize for Literature and Book-Publishing “Hristo G. Danov” in the category “E-publication and New Technologies” for its multimedia bibliography “Nikolai Liliev”.
The Union of Librarians and Information Services Officers organized for the first time the campaign “Natioanl Librarian Week” having the motto “The Lybrary – Investment in the Future!”. The initiative conducted under the patronage of Mr. Georgi Pirinski – Chairman of the 40th National Assembly. The campaign aimed attracting the attention of the legislative and executive powers and the community to the importance of the libraries as an educational, cultural and information institution and their present problems.
The National Librarian Week was opened on May, the 15th 2006 at 13.00 o’clock with the exhibition named “Contemporary Bulgarian Library” in the parliamentarian club of the National Assembly from Mr. Georgi Pirinski and with a discussion about the problems of the libraries.
The “Pencho Slaveikov” Public Library was a partner in the National Donating Campaign “Books of My Childhood”, organized by the Bulgarian Red Cross and Coca-Cola under the patronage of Mrs. Zorka Parvanova.
The campaign aimed increasing the interest of children to books and developing their reading culture and spread throughout all the 28 regional centers in the country.
Guest to the American Reading-Room of the “Pencho Slaveikov” Public Library was the American ambassador in Bulgaria Mr. John Beyrle. The reading-room was named after H. U. Schumacher – a minister plenipotentiary of the USA to Bulgaria during the period 1930 – 1934.
Guest to the “Pencho Slaveikov” Public Library was Gina Millsap, director of the Public Library in the city of Ames, Iowa, USA – a partner in the project on exchanging librarian experience: Ways of collaboration. Development of public informational services.
“Pencho Slaveikov” Public Library participated in the exhibition “Written Wealth of the Libraries in Bulgaria”, Sofia.
A Reading-Room for American Literature was officially opened. Guests to the event were James Pardew - Ambassador of the USA to Republic of Bulgaria and Kiril Yordanov – mayor of the Municipality of Varna.
In Plovdiv the “Pencho Slaveikov” Public Library was given the award “Hristo. G. Danov” in “Libraries and Librarian Affairs” division.
The exhibition “100 Years Diplomatic Relationships between Bulgaria and the USA” was held in the library.

The premiere of the book “Varna’s Library – 120 Years in Dates” by Marin Marinov was lead by Dr. Lyudmila Stoyanova.
In the lobby of the St.St.Cyril and Methodius National Library was held an exhibition named “The Life of the Books in Varna”, devoted to the 120th anniversary of the “Pencho Slaveykov” Public Library Varna. The organizers presented the events among a panorama of aquarelles and views of the old Varna, portraits and personal belongings of prominent citizens of Varna – founders of the library.
The 120th anniversary of the “Pencho Slaveikov” Public Library Varna was officially celebrated.
The International Day of the Book was celebrated. For the first time ever was held the ”Reader’s Marathon”.
The Children’s and Teen Section was the library welcomed its readers at a new location.
Guests to the “Pencho Slaveikov” Public Library were specialists of librarian affairs, lead by Mrs. Nancy Bolt, a head coordinator of the "Sister Libraries" project.
