LL4S
  Summary/ Description of Activity
The object of the activity is to document by video special local historical events and activities. Latest job: Making a video film including sounds of the restoration of the spires of the Cathedral of Roskilde for the Local Historical Archive. Afterwards the documentation is included in the Local Historical Archive's Collection, where is can been studied. An exhibition is made at the Local Archive. It is also included in the Library's collection and can be borrowed from there. Copies of the film are also sold in the Cathedral. By filming the restoration old traditional ways of working are also documented: e.g. cobber roofing, carpenting. The activity was combined with the activity of another group of senior volunteers from an amateur photographer group who took still pictures of the restoration.
  Learning objectives:
The amateur video photographer keeps his technical knowledge up to date, he learns about the new and latest within video technique and equipment. He learns new methods of working. He combines his knowledge of filming with new knowledge of church history and local history and learns how to plan and select what it is important and relevant to register and what is not. He develops a large local network.

EVALUATION OF ACTIVITY
  Evaluation of the Learning Objectives
Great success. The senior amateur photographers became more and more “professional” in their work. The photographer won several prizes for the video at amateur photographers’ competitions.
  Evaluation of the activity
Problems arise if the equipment is damaged or gets too old or if new technical methods should be used and are not known. Equipment is expensive and the Archive at the Library have not got money for such equipment. The activity more than fulfilled the expectations of the staff
Evaluation of what was learned by the participants
Both Head of The Archive and the volunteers have acquired new knowledge in old tasks as e.g. carpenting, cobber roof making etc. As a result of the video the archive has got good relations to the staff in the Cathedral and makes activities together with the Cathedral. The senior volunteer has also learned to sell the film in the Cathedral. So it is easier for the volunteers to start new video and photo registrations in the Cathedral and other historical places. The cathedral has also got good contact – can borrow newspaper articles etc from the Archive.
Evaluation of what staff have learned
To make volunteers interested, the subject they have to film has to be a subject or an event which the volunteers find interesting. Otherwise they might find it too boring or find it takes too long time. Local conditions have to be taken into consideration: In the cathedral you must not have fear of heights!

ANALYSIS OF EVALUATION
What would you change to improve activity?
Many local activities and events can be filmed, documented and filed in archives for future use and study, e.g. a village’s history, the reconstruction of the square in the town,
What particular circumstance could affect a change in the activity?
You have to find out what permissions you have to get in order to be allowed to take films and photos. Security equipments might be necessary. You have to agree about the copyright to the use of the videos and photos afterwards, for e.g. sales, exhibitions etc.
  Other possible Activities
Many local activities and events can be filmed, documented and filed in archives for future use and study, e.g. a village’s history, the reconstruction of the square in the town
  Best practice
Technical equipment and skills can always be improved
  Transferability:
Yes for other local events and historical activities, e.g. reconstruction of the town square, how a new sculpture of the first queen of Denmark was placed at the entrance of the town
